Art Makes Sense - Mercurius

Mercurius’s own Art Makes Sense brand of high-quality, sustainably-made products for educators developing the senses across many ages and subject areas. Sourced for their unique properties from companies sharing Mercurius’s social and environmental values, Art Makes Sense exceeds artistic and safety standards making them invaluable.

Auris

Founder, carpenter, musician Kjell Andersson wanted people to achieve harmony between what the ear hears, the hand feels and the eye sees. Now recognised globally by teachers, musicians, sound and design enthusiasts, Auris's instruments inspire players to awaken curiosity and create playful music. Equally, Auris is devoted to training disabled adults in instrument making.

Choroi

Choroi employs musicians, teachers, therapists, and craftspeople in 10 therapeutic workshops across Europe to craft innovative instruments to inspire creative playing and deeper listening.

Debresk

Founded by three Waldorf-school friends who wanted to balance the senses with the intellect of a growing child with smoothly shaped, natural wooden toys.

Dipam

A small company making clean, high-quality beeswax products from a renewable resource. They employ people returning to the workforce for a variety of reasons. They also employ disabled people to perform meaningful tasks at the workshop. Dipam uses sustainable, environmentally-friendly materials in products and packaging. Their candles are natural, artificial-additive free.

Encaustic art

Encaustic art was an ancient technique using melted, coloured wax for portrait and icon painting. Here an iron or stylus heats any of the many colours of wax blocks. Discover this fascinating, creative method. A liquid when warm and solid at room temperature, the wax can be reworked with a warm iron or stylus on the different cards using their tools and accessories.

Filges

Specialising in vegetable-based dyes, their organic wool and silk products made with traditional, artisanal methods. Filges operates sustainably to preserve natural resources, avoiding harmful effects upon nature, humans and promoting biodiversity. Their goals are traceable for consumers as their products meet Bioland certification standards for natural, safe products.

International Design

Artist Marjan van Zeyl has memories of Sunday bicycle trips as a child to a beautiful garden surrounded by a private wooded forest. There she witnessed the generosity of beauty by the gentle hand of a divine nature. She has always kept those memories which provide that gentle and calm source needed to present nature's light, colour and beauty full of gratitude.

Lyra

LYRA, one of the oldest colouring pencil brands in the world. A world legend since 1806, with quality products for schools, homes and offices. LYRA is well known for its colouring pencils, watercolour pencils, artist quality pencils, sketching pencils and graphic design shading sets.

Sarah's Silks

Sustainably-produced, using non-toxic dyes, these beautiful handwoven silks from China nurture the senses. Sarah’s Silks's products come in an array of colours, sizes, and encourage open-ended play. They spark children's creativity and imagination. Developing inner creativity at an early age teaches resourcefulness and inventive thinking.

Stockmar

First a producer of candles and beekeeping products, Waldorf teachers urged Hans Stockmar to create modelling beeswax for their art classes. Further collaboration led to the crayons, watercolours and decorating wax we know today. Recognised globally for uncompromised production quality and products that meet high pedagogical, artistic, social and environmental standards.
